PALEIS HET LOO
A peoples perfume for the palace
A signature scent for the Museum Paleis Het Loo
A signature fragrance was created for the reopening of Paleis Het Loo, one of the most visited attractions in the Netherlands. The central idea of the project was to work in collaboration with the museum staff to develop a concept for a custom palace fragrance. The fragrance is both an artistic reflection of memories, emotions, and impressions and a real conversation piece, inviting people to share their own sensations and associations. The first presentation and display took place during the opening months of the museum in a room-sized orange blossom sculpture by Dutch artist Linda Nieuwstad, thus adding another exciting dimension.
Services:
Developing the idea, conducting workshops, selecting and briefing project partners for technical implementation, evaluating the fragrance, and curating the process leading up to the installation and exhibition opening.

SCENT FESTIVAL at the MUSEUM AARGAU
Scent interventions for “1000 scents”, the theme of the year
Concept and development of three thematic focal points focus? —Scent & Language, Scent & Sound, Scent & Memories—which are represented artistically in different locations of the museum. Six national and international perfumers were invited to create fragrances that could enter into a dialogue with each location. Staged in a series of installations and events, these fragrances became the defining highlights of the entire themed year.
The festival was organised and produced by Scent Festival, commissioned by the Museum Aargau.
Services:
Conceptualization of thematic content, selection of perfumers, curation of the exhibitions and staging at the respective locations, exhibition design at Wildegg Castle, production supervision, creative direction of the visual language for the communication campaign, photo production, and selection of external partners.

Wildegg Castle—Scent & Language
The interventions focused on the castle’s library and the attic above it. The Swiss writer Simone Lappert translated the fragrances created by perfumer Bibi Bigler into poetry, making it possible to “read” them through the nose. Jean Claude Richard, perfumer and founder of Farfalla, travelled with his fragrance to an Iranian mountain valley to harvest roses.

Königsfelden Monastery—Scent & Sound
In two fragrance concerts, perfumer Vincent Micotti and Swiss pianist Oliver Schnyder teamed up to create their own unique interpretation of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Goldberg Variations.

Hallwyl Castle—Scent & Memory
The interventions at Hallwyl Castle were dedicated to illustrating historical contexts through scents. Themes such as courtly education, birth and death, and medicine played an important role. The participating creators were specifically invited to approach these thematic landscapes not only as a direct reformulation of a historical scent but also to translate them into artistically abstract aromatic compositions. Curated installations made it possible to experience the chosen themes and places beyond a didactic exhibition and invited visitors to exchange ideas.
Participating perfumers at Hallwyl Castle:
Mark Buxton (F) with Alexander Lauber (A), Maya Njie (UK), Ezra-Lloyd Jackson (UK), Luca Maffei (I)

MUSEUM AARGAU
Consulting and co-conception of the thematic year “1000 scents”.
Guidance in the development and identification of themes as well as the conceptual design of communication tools that made the theme of scent didactically tangible at each of the museum’s locations.
For each location, a fragrance was created and presented in an oversize flacon, and a fragrance kiosk was set up as a mobile unit at the sites, where visitors could receive an introduction to the fragrance families.
Services:
Workshop for theme identification, concept, choice of perfumer,
design and production support for the fragrance kiosk.
